If you are a nature lover and love birdwatching, then Bhigwan is a must visit. Bhigwan is a small town on the border of Pune and Solapur district in Central Maharashtra, in India. It is located on the Pune-Solapur Highway. The distance between Pune and Bhigwan is around 105 km.
South of Bhigwan town, exists a widespread backwater formed due to a man made dam built on the Bhima river. The dam is called as Ujni dam. The backwaters is spread over a wide region and is mainly a shallow water reserve. This is where one can see the Migratory Water Birds. The best season to visit is winter, specially month of January and February.
It is a favourite spot for migratory birds, with more than 230 species found here. The backwaters of Ujjani Dam is wintering home for list of migratory birds such as Greater Flamingo, Eurasian Spoonbill, Bar Headed Goose, Collared Pratincole and the Osprey, Bird of prey.
HOW TO REACH
The best way to travel to Bhigwan is by road. You will reach the back waters in 3 to 3.5 hours from Pune. I would suggest to start early around 4 am to reach by 8 am. Early morning is the best time to get the best glimpse of the birds. While traveling in dawn enjoy beautiful sunrise 🙂 🙂

There is no doubt in things to do 🙂 🙂 “Wildlife Photography” 🙂 🙂 If you love birdwatching there is an ample opportunity to capture these beautiful birds in your photographic lens. Capturing the moments of birds in there natural habitat is a surreal experience.
Many kinds of prime bird species such as Ducks, Herons, Egrets, Raptors, Waders and many more along with flocks of hundreds of flamingos can be seen. If you are not Ornithologist 🙂 🙂 it’s very difficult to know all birds name 🙂 🙂 but watching them is a lifetime experience.
